My Players, they are wonderful....
First of all things hello to everybody reading this.

It`s a small excerpt from my campaign...

The party in my campaign consists of 5 characters, a mage, a two-weapon fighter, a barbarian fighter, a rogue and a cleric. They are in the middle of the campaign, currently 2 temples and 3 bridges destroyed (air/earth, air/water/fire). Next step was attacking water temple, but before that they were hired from the water temple as support for the water temple attack at the fire temple ...

Seeing their chance to wipe out the powerful fire temple they agreed and shortly after that they were on their way through the stalagos. The plan of the players was to stop the attack after the fire temple recognizes the Kuotoa and also was weakened a little,so they could destroy both temples in short time. But they don`t know the exact plan how Urlurg wanted to destroy the altar. they thought, he wants to hammer onto it with his weapon until it breaks or the water temple has no real plan hoew to do this.(they gathered information about how many warriors will attack, how many foes are there to be expected and so on, but no one asked how they plan to destroy the temple...)but they thought wrong.

The attack starts...

They bribed the three guard troops and rushed to the sealed doors. There they fight a short fight and then the fun starts. a good fight with tessimon and later firre arlainth, zert, mephits and 4 warriors begun and the party had some problems with the skeletons, so the altar couldn`t be destroyed in the first 4 rounds. then the reenforcements entered the battle and in this time the two warriors took very much damage. In the time of the battle, the whole party thought over their plans and they couldn`t decide what to do..., they thought, they should wait with their plan a little longer, because the kuotoa couldn`t destroy the temple in short time.

so Urlurg and nibool did something, because they got some break in battle and could cast disintegrate. Boom

Whole party: oh!

Next round urlurg and nibool recalled wounded but alive and the party was there left only with problems, okay they took out zert and arlainth, the warriors (i shouldnt mention them, because they are cannonfodder) and the skelletons, but tessimon and firre were alive, and tessimon took the heavy tank with her flame strike out. the other fighter was also wounded and so the party teleported with a scroll out, but they hated this...

what do we learn from that?
don`t underestimate a plan from the water temple AND you should KNOW the whole plan

so i`m glad they were so flexible, that they could go out of this, but i don`t know what happens with the remaining troops of the fire temple? do they raid against the water temple? the players? do they repair the temple?

Sounds like a great session that the players will remember for a long time. Congrats! :D

The transcription of the letter from Hedrack to Tessimon in my campaign thread details what happened afterwards in my own campaign.

You can try what I did. Have the Fire Temple contact the players in order to setup an attack on the Water Temple. Tessimon will summon 1d3 salamanders (I just chose 2) and send them, along with 2 mephits and Virith with the party to the Water Temple. Let the party devise the plan and have the FT forces take orders from them. Tessimon expects her forces to be killed, but that is okay if the WT gets their comeuppence.

Re: re
Don't forget that with two temples down, Hedrack really starts to take some notice of the party. I really like the idea of the Fire Temple hiring the party so maybe Hedrack could send his first wave (one assassin I think?) after that. Although having the assassin attack during the party's attack on the WT might be overkill.

yeah, i know that hedrack should engage in some action... i have to think over that, cause my party wants to kill themselves sometimes with so called "attack plans"...:rolleyes

other thing, can anyone tell me what elmo, rufus and burne know about the temple layout/troops and so on, i think they were involved in the second destroying of the temple and my players wanted some information about it...

Water Temple
Well, IMC the WT got defeated, but it was a REAL tough fight. I spaced out the combat so that the party would have a chance.

1. As they made it into the 192, they were attacked from behind by 8 human warriors, the 6 normal skum and Qouquog. Unfortunately, the archer failed both saves, but otherwise it was easy.

2. The salamanders then fought Oomkaan while the big skum made their way out of the water (one by one due to the small corridor size). Moolowik was hiding down the corridor to 193. As someone else pointed out before, Oomkaan is a wimp. The skum, however, when they hit will put out a heck of a punch. Moolowik didn't last long. At the tail end of the fight, Zeityan called to the party offering sanctuary and that if they continue they would surely die. She was ignored.

3. The big fight in the main temple were the rest of the party (5 PC's mostly 9th level, two badly injured salamanders, two mephits, Virith) vs 6 kuo-toan fighters, Nilbool, Kelashein, a silenced huge water elemental, 2 kuo-toans, and a corrupted Urlurg.

Urlurg and the hwe survived and retreated to 197 while the party looted.

Note: That hwe is REAL nasty, particularly if it criticals on a power attack. It should block entrance into the temple. Think very carefully before using the corrupted template on anything. It really is +3 CR.

If I didn't think it would tip the balance, I would have Virith be a double agent and work for the WT with her secret lover the elf wizard.
