Greater Temple in OF rule question
So, my party has cleared the Outer Fane (well, really, Thrommel cleared the last bit for them, after they took out most of the clerics) and discovered the Greater Temple (area 23).

Now, pretty much all of them have failed a Will save against the mocking statues, though only one of them has actually attacked one. Does the Wisdom damage apply to everyone who fails the Will save, or just folks who attack them?

Also, since Varachan is dead, how can I encourage the PCs not to try for the Inner Fane directly (where I suspect they will die horribly) and instead go check out the Recovered Temple? They found Hedrack's journal, so they know about both.

Re: Greater Temple in OF rule question
The wisdom damage applies to everyone who fails the Will save. They continuously feel that inanimate objects are mocking them, even outside the Greater Temple. The only effect from attacking the statues is the weakening effect (from a failed Fort save).

To encourage the PC's to investigate the Recovered Temple first, you need to impress upon them the timeline. Surely, the Inner Fane should be dealt with, but the impending release of Tharizdun is far more important. Here you can use the thematic changes in the world (fires erupting everywhere, etc.) to impress upon them the changes that Imix is instigating. Maybe a dream sequence about the release of Tharizdun (use the image of the solar trying to keep closed the black gate while being attacked by the four evil elements, only to fail and have some big purplish black amorphous mass with writhing tentacles emerge). You can use others, but the best way to get them to change paths is that the RT is more important, and the way to show that is by the time.

Why will they die?
Why do you think the party will "die horribly" in the Inner Fane, as opposed to, say, at the Recovered Temple? Aren't the ELs similar? It would be equally cinematic if, as they dispatched the First and the Third, they were to perish with a small, evil smile and a knowing cackle while proclaiming their inevitable victory...

Re: Why will they die?
Because the Inner Fane has a lot of negative status effects (unhallows, the Dreaming Stone effect) and nasty, nasty baddies in it. Plus, the module tells me so, on p. 127 in the sidebar.
