Thief guild for one of my players?
Hi all,
Well, my group has cleared the South Entrance, moved in on the water temple (destroyed) and has taken out the fire bridge complex after a succesfull raid with the Orcs.

The party already has a fortified house in Rastor, which is paid for by the church of Cuthbert.
However one of the players is the sneaky rogue/wizard type and he wants to set up a thief guild in Verbobonc and have a base in Homlett. So that character has left the group (he is now playing a celestial as per SS) and is on his wat to Homlett/Verbobonc. He is the one who arranged all the sdtuff with the church and now he wants to try and trick them into helping him in setting up the guild. He ain't evil or anything like that, but he just wants to get some power going. He can be ruthless at times though.

Suggestions?

A guild would already exist in Verbobonc. If he tried to set up a competing guild, he would be in for a world of trouble. In any case, the best thing he could do would be to 'franchise' the guild in Hommlet, assuming it didn't already exist there. That's a possibility, and his status as a hero would greatly help his hidden identity.

Yeah allright. So let's say he will rise in the "family", he might take over the business eventually. Marriage could get him into the family ;)

Yeah, playing it like a mob family is a great idea. It may seem trite on the surface, but I think it would be a lot of fun. Remember that the player is likely high level (anything above 6th would probably be considered a relatively high level), and thus would be treated with respect. Let the player try to talk his way into the family. What does HE bring to the table? What can he do? How will he prove his loyalty?

I'm thinking the head of the family is a Sorcerer/Rogue. Total lvl 10 or 11 or so ;)
