Terrenygit
Last night, my players attack the main gate for the second time. This time they managed to kill Mereclar, Wormspike and the Howler, along with a considerable number of guards.
At the end Terrenygit retreated towards the earth Temple along with 3 gnolls, 4 human guards and 7 of the zombies. Also the two trog guards are still alive. What would he do next... He could join the earth Temple or bring the bad news to Naquent. What would be his best option, considering the loss of Mereclar and Wormspike? Or should he try to retake the Main entrance after the adventurers leave and fortify it with his small group of followers?
Any advice would be welcome....

Re: Terrenygit
Hmm.
Terrenygit will certainly try to retake the gates before he reports his defeat to his superiors (it is never a good idea to report failure to evil and mad superiors ).
As a first measure, he would try to get some support from his people at the earth temple. This may take the form of a small contingent of warriours led by the swordmaster or even the summoned xorn (he could always sacrifice one of his remaining guards to the earth temple) and a cleric or two.
If the party leaves the gate undefended, he would certainly move in and bar it, maybe even reinforce hard to defend areas with pieces of furniture and stone shape spells. If the party has left any corpses, Terrenygit will surely reanimate them as zombies (remember that they would have a better AC than standard zombies because of their equipment).
If the gate is left alone for a longer time after this, reinforcements will arrive, as happened IMC.

Re: Terrenygit
I'd concur with Grimbold. The reason you don't want him and his joining the Earth Temple is a balance issue...it's strong enough already.
He might send some hapless messenger, blessed for the Earth Door, to report the gate catastrophe to the Outer Fane however. It's not so bad to report disaster if you're not the messenger. I'd expect a lot of finger pointing at Mereclar's incompetence.

Re: Terrenygit
Keep in mind that the hapless messenger might not even make it. It'd certainly be interesting to have Terrenygit take over the main gate after the party leaves, in addition to sending the hapless messenger. Have the messenger be killed on the way. Write up the message now and the party will thoroughly enjoy finding it later. It'll serve to emphasize that not everything the bad guys do turns out successfully either.

Hapless Messenger
That was something I was thinking about too, but couldn't check while I was at work to see if there's safe passage to the Earth Bridge. I doubt he'd make it past the owlbears in 198, so you could place him with the bodies in 199. I'd give a spot check to notice that one of the corpses is wearing a different style of uniform than the others...similar to the guards at the main gate.
Another possibility is the pit trap in area 200...replace the dire ape with the guard.

Re: Hapless Messenger
Thanks guys... Those are some great ideas. I like the idea of them finding a messenger from Terrenygit later on. I guess he should carry a written message from the trog for naquent...
I always like those ideas that make the CRM come to life. It adds some depth to the adventure...
