Request for repost: Four-Sided Column
Gang,

The characters in my campaign have completed the CRM and are poised to assault the Recovered Temple. Before they do so, they intend to cast a series of divinations on the various artifacts around the moathouse. They've worked hard, and I'd like to reward their efforts with some interesting flavour material.

Ages ago, there was a thread that compiled all the known info on the four sided column (Moathouse area 32A, Moathouse area 34A, and elsewhere in the adventure), including material from old first edition modules (like WG4), Canonfire, and elsewhere. IIRC, it included a brief description of each aspect of Tharizdun.

Unfortunately, the thread didn't get captured in the FAQ or the best of boards. Now that I need it, it has slipped off page twenty. If anyone saved this thread, could you please repost?

Thanks!

Have you checked Page 21? Here's one thread, but not the one your looking for.

Thanks, Infiniti! I also found this thread but it didn't have the info I wanted either. Hmm. Perhaps this is a case of "wishful remembering" and the thread I described never really existed. :(

Anyway, I visited SVGames and picked up electronic copies of T1-4, WG4, and GDQ1-7 -- my old paper copies are in storage somewhere. Perhaps I'll find my answers there. At the very least, I'm looking forward to re-reading some old school adventures and enjoying a rush of gaming nostalgia.

Good gaming.

Re: Request for repost: Four-Sided Column
WG4 is definitely the place to look for the verbose description is of the column and much of the other big-T symbolism. There are a few bits like this (and the masks, for example) that I wish Monte/WotC would have expanded on a little more in RttToEE. They have such tempting flavor, but with little direction from the adventure alone! I found the SVG download well worth the purchase to give myself this background, having never used WG4 back in 1e.

Wow, thanks for those links Blakwind!

I have looked for those adventures, but only found physical copies for sale. Not being in the States (or even close) I could not justify the cost to buy _and_ ship to sunny (ok not today, but mostly sunny) New Zealand. :D

Anyway, thanks again!

Arcane12: I'm glad I could help. :D

I'll also recommend I, Tyrant if you want to make Kex (recovered temple, area 13) into a memorable encounter. Pretty good value for $4.79US.

Re: Request for repost: Four-Sided Column
Here's what I gave my players when they Legend Lored the four-sided column before assaulting the recovered temple. It's derrived from my interpretation of the material in WG4.

Quote:
To worship Tharizdun is to worship madness itself -- a spiral of decay into chaos that transcends the comprehension of mortal man. The rituals of Tharizdun's followers embody that insanity, with rites steeped in self-contradictions that seemingly defy reason.

In some ceremonies, dread Tharizdun is depicted as four distinct aspects. The black aspect is associated with strength, prowess, might, and invincibility. The green aspect is associated with wisdom, skill, craft, glory, and leadership. The red aspect is associated with death, anger, revenge, hatred, and slaying. The blue aspect is associated with knowledge, secrets, that which is hidden, and magic. Attempting to reconcile the four aspects with other mysteries of Tharizdun worship, some scholars speculate that the aspects manifest the professions of fighter, cleric, rogue, and wizard. Others believe that they symbolize power derived from strength, divinity, stealth, and arcana. Still others contend that no sane being can comprehend the dogma of lunatics, and attempts to do so would be wasteful folly.
