Consequences of Amulet of Inescapeable Location|
Ok, my players sold the Amulet thinking it was the real deal. They were careful to sell it to a Paladin so it would not be used for illegitemate acts.
My plan so far...
They get a note saying that the Paladin is dead. His finger was left in an offering plate. His mission is unknown. Commune has pointed to the PCs as the cause of his death. The church demands the immediate return of the PCs
Now I am setting it up so that is the only thing a Commune will ever reveal.
Res. is an option but the party will have to foot the bill.
Once he is Res. any ideas on what this Paladin's mission should have been, why he needed the amulet, and who killed him? It would be nice to tie this back to big T. and the cult in some way.
My party has cleared all the CRM except the Fire Temple.

The obvious choice is Bethe or Victor. I would, however, have the mission be a red herring (something unrelated). If it is too related, you will get into a potential problem where the PC's ask for official help once they realize the real situation. That may be okay for you, but it will be a big deal if you don't want to suddenly throw down a lot of support into the Rastor area.
I think the party will need to not only pay for the rez, but also some additional penalty. After all, the paladin is losing a level (in game terms), he's a little weaker, and deserves some extra compensation. Also, someone has to reimburse the paladin or his organization for the large sum of money they paid for the item.
If you need to tie the mission back to the Cult, you can use the orc camp or the troll camp. Or, maybe one of the members of the cult (perhaps the assassin who killed him) is wanted for something unrelated to the return of Big T.
