A very stupid question.
Call me stupid but how exactly do you pronounce Verbobonc? Ver-bob-onk sounds kinda stupid to me.

Re: A very stupid question.
Not a stupid question at all. Check out this thread on Page 21. There's a Greyhawk reference in there, too.
Anyway, as for sounding stupid, a lot of Gygaxian names were like that. In particular, I point to "Fragarach".

Re: A very stupid question.
I remember a discussion (different one to the one pointed to above) not too long ago on that issue (and also discussed pronouncing Fragarach, then degrading into calling it fraggle rock! :P ) but after 30 mins of search could not find it... I think it was a part of another discussion...sorry, but maybe Infiniti2000 may remember it...

The funny thing is that Gygax just released a gaming supplement that is just a bunch of names for use in your game.

Re: A very stupid question.
Gygax invented names the same way most of us invent them, I guess - it's just his adventures made it into print and became part of the Greyhawk canon
I recall seeing somewhere that he just used the first few letters of his children's names for the city in the Vault of the Drow - ERniE Luke HEIdi CINdy LoUie, Erelhei-Cinlu - and thus, "Erelhei" is now drow for "city"
