Hallowing the IF
One of my players wants to hallow the temple at the top of the IF. The module says the IF is "saturated" with unhallow spells, so is hallowing the temple possible? Should the hallow attempt cause him pain or be negated, what should happen?

Re: Hallowing the IF
I'd say you've got two possible interpretations:
* that the unhallow effect is already in place so he can't hallow the area
* that it counters but does not dispel the unhallow effects
I'd be inclined to the former, but it's really a better question for the Magic forum. Of course, it takes 24 hours to cast, so the likelihood of an interruption ruining the spell must be high (given the locale). You'd also have to decide whether the 40 ft radius reached to the interior of the Inner Fane; I'd say no, because line of effect is being blocked...
Just my quick thoughts...

Re: Hallowing the IF
My reading of "saturate" is that there are hundreds if not thousands of separate unhallow effects in this area. Casting Hallow would cancel a single one of these effects, without much real effect.

They were hardy and dangerous, lawless, stripped of allegiance or morality, living off their wits, stealing and killing, hiring themselves out to whoever and whatever came... They were scum who died violent deaths, hanging on to a certain cachet among the impressionable through their undeniable bravery and their occasionally impressive exploits" China Mieville, Perdido Street Station |

Cordo - that's kind of what I was thinking too...just wanted some confirmation and hadn't seen any discussion of it yet.

Re: Hallowing the IF
Yes, the Doomdreamers probably reUnhallow each room, corridor, etc each year to refresh the tied in spell. The hallow would only counter the most recent unhallow with the Aid(?) tied in.
Opps. Just read the SRD -
Duration: Instantaneous
An area can receive only one hallow spell (and its associated spell effect) at a time. Hallow counters but does not dispel unhallow.
Uh, does this mean once a hallow is cast it cannot be gotten rid of? Counter is for counterspelling, and instantaneous means dispel magic doesn't work. What gives here? I assume for the Elemental temples the Altars exude the unhallow hence the removal of unhallow when the altar dies. I would guess there is a similar effect (in effect a powerful magic item or artifact ) gaurding the inner fane.
