Spell DCs
Okay, I was a little worried after reviewing Hedrack's stat block. His disintegrate and destruction DCs are very high. I was thinking to myself, maybe this is unreasonable and I should consider eliminating the insanity wisdom bonus to the DCs.

And then, Sylvan, the elven wizard IMC cast feeblemind on Eeridik. The save DC was 26: base 16 (18 Int and a +4 Int item), +5 spell level, +1 spell focus (3.5 rules), and -4 for Eeridik being an arcane spellcaster.

No more Mr. Nice Guy. :evil

Re: Spell DCs
I also have decided to have no mercy as far as saves against these spells go. I specifically had Varachan warn them about strong death magic and that they should go in death warded. Advice which they have largely not heeded up until now. (Only casting death ward when they thought they would be facing "a powerful vampire".)

They may need a hard lesson or two.

Re: Spell DCs
I went one step further and had my NPCs cast each spell at the PC they had an idea would have the hardest time resisting. My NPCs made a point of gathering intel and interrogating survivors, so they hit the fighter/ranger/rogue with Will Saves and the sorcerer with Fort Saves.

Re: Spell DCs
Yeah, when my party hits Hedrack and Naquent, I'm going to pull 0 punches when it comes to targetting the appropriately vulnerable PC with each spell. It's only fair for Varachan to warn the party, though, that they've been repeatedly scried, and the bad guys know all of their strengths and weaknesses.

Re: Spell DCs
My party's doing so well in the CRM that Varachan has done very little to help. They've wiped out everything except for the Air Temple, the Orc lairs, and the WBC. Tarren is their 'friend' and Eeridik has the Int of a lizard. Dunno what they plan with him, particularly as he is still in hybrid form.

In meantime, the main baddies have been busy and by the time the heroes return, things will have changed. They will head into the OF in the next session or two. I need to light a fire under their asses. No, literally. :b

Re: Spell DCs
Targeting the PCs based on their weaknesses made it personal on a level I thoroughly enjoyed. I went for different characters, but each spell was meant to hurt - and usually did :evil

I thoroughly recommend it because I think that after the first foray into the OF, a carefully balanced "me-versus-you" attitude ups the ante tremendously.

Re: Spell DCs
Obviously the rogues and wizards are the best targets for Destruction and Disintegrate... But you've made me curious what high level spells you pulled out against the low will save classes (fighter) and low reflex save classes (cleric).

Re: Spell DCs
Low will saves: Phantasmal Killer, Insanity, Repulsion

Low Reflex: Blade barrier and flame strike. Fire storm took down my cleric for real.

Note, that these were spells used by The First as he IMC went to the Recovered Temple after the PCs had made some Azers sink the Inner Fane into the lava.
