Lesser Keys & Greater Keys What isthe deal?
Hi,

New to the forum and just decided to get my players into the RTTOEE. They are higher level so I am jumping them right into the outer fane. I am using the suggested underdark entrance in the secret cave by the water temple where the water naga hangs out as a starting point.

Anyways, the naga will tell the party if they talk to her that they should get the two lesser water keys to get through the water door. But the description of the water door says you need a GREATER water key. I can't find any information on the Greater water key in the mines or appendix or in the general description of the fanes. What gives? Did I miss something or what? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Vrayth:(

There is a sidebar somewhere in the adventure that explains this.

Two lesser keys 'fit' together to make a greater key.

Thanks! I had a feeling it was something like that.

Let me answer the next question you'll ask ...

Where are the "Master" keys ?

Two Greater keys fit together to make a Master Key,
the same way two lessers form a greater. The only difference
as I see it is that the Master key, once formed, is permanent.

Which makes me wonder if a Master key can also open the
Fire, Air, Water, or Earth doors. Someone in a different thread
suggested the Master key dissembles for this application, I
plan to make it work as a "super key" when / if I get there.

I don't remember who suggested this idea, but I really like it. If it was you, speak up!

The master key acts like both a lesser key and a greater key of each type of lesser key from which it is created. Alternatively, it functions as each lesser key, but only functions as a greater key if two lesser keys of the same type are included. While the greater key resembles a double width lesser key, the greater key actually reforms (permanently) into an obex (black or a combination of the colors of the keys used to form it).

This then means you can attach any two greater keys to form a master key or you can attach each of the four lesser keys.
