Cheesiest campaign ending ever
Okay, a couple of you may remember that I had to cut short the Recovered Temple bit because I was moving to the UK from the US. Now that I've moved and have 'net access at work I thought I'd share how everything ended.

First of all, the players didn't heed my notice that I'd be around one week longer than they thought. One had to go to a neice's b-day party, another had a trip to take or something...so I had to wrap everything up from the Inner Fane to the very end of the campaign in eight hours (!). Not to mention one of the players had to leave early that same day, so we'd be without him. And by the time everyone arrived and discounting going out for food, there was about 6.5 hours left to finish absolutely everything and try to make everyone happy. Go figure.

In the last session, all of the characters had drawn from the Deck of Many Things. I kept it in to keep up the chaotic nature of the campaign. Only one player drew a useful card (vizier) and another had drawn the card that gave him a bag of gems. The fighter lost all his magic items and the sorcerer AND cleric were sucked away into a void (I forget the card name). So, via email the following week, we sorted out what the group was going to do: travel to Verbobonc, sell the gems, buy new stuff for the fighter, then conveniently run into someone who could write scrolls to bring back the missing PCs. Kind of a mess but I thought I had an extra week, remember? :)

Anyway, along the way to the Recovered Temple and Fire Node, the group came across a portable hole somewhere, I forget from who. A few encounters ensued, yadda yadda, and they found the entrance to the Fire Node.

Luckily they went straight ahead instead of trying to sneak about and turn left and right and all that, so they found Imix's chamber pretty quick. They realized how actually big he was when in just a couple of steps he walked up and sliced the cleric in two with his huge colossal gigantic sword of death-to-all-player-characters.

Naturally, the group hadn't buffed AT ALL before entering this area where everything was boiling hot to the touch, etc.

So anyway, they run away in perfect order and devise a plan: the group would have Silence cast on them, then Invisibility on the fighter, who would strip down to nothing, carry the group's portable hole in one hand and a bag of holding in another, run up to Imix as close as possible and slap the two together.

So that happened and the group basically delayed the inevitable...Imix is on the astral plane or wherever you get sent when you put a portable hole and a bag of holding together, Imix promptly killed the fighter for his insolence, but the fighter was brought back with a scroll of true resurrection the group had hoarded.

Cheesy or what?

Re: Cheesiest campaign ending ever
I love it! It's clever thinking by the PCs, buying them more time from the whole end-of-the-world scenario... although if the other stuff is still extant (the Orb, Lareth, etc), they've only bought themselves a little bit of time...

Yeah, that was part of the problem - everything still exists but there just wasn't enough gaming time available for me to go into destroying the orbs, etc.

I guess to me it was only cheesy because I wanted to whack at them with Imix's sword :)

Re: .
Nah, mine was cheesier :D They managed to get the Orb from Imix as he's waiting for the nimbus to form, they teleport away to the Black Sun in the Outer Fane, and they all jump in it, for some reason. THat's a Sphere of Ann., btw. Imix walks out of the Recovered Temple and lays waste to a lot of the land before he's put down by some epic people. The End.

Re: Sphere of annihilation...
Now there's a good question - what happens to Artifacts if they come into contact with the minor artifact that is a Sphere of Annihilation? From your game, Eltern, the result seems to be the destruction of the Artifact... I suspect, though, that it isn't destroyed, but maybe spat out into some other dimension. Maybe we should ask this on the Magic forum...
