Fire Temple
Okay, my PC's are just up to the blade spirit and destrechans, so they should be butting into the Fire Temple next session. Does anyone have thoughts or experiences on running this section they'd like to share?

As always, my campaign is 3.0, so cool new 3.5 stuff will have to go, but broken 3.0 stuff can stay. :evil

Re: Fire Temple
So they will be coming at the temple from the long way around? Pretty different from my experiences as my party attacked with the water temple on their first foray vs. fire. I think there may be an old thread on Zans archive in which I asked the same question about a year ago and got some good responses from some old timers.

Fire temple thoughts
Okay, so after a very welcome response from the "Second Prophecy Subplot" thread, here's what I'm initially envisioning. Tessimon, Firre, Zert, Arlainth and some mooks are in the Fire Temple proper, conducting a ceremony as they torture and kill the priest of Kossuth.

Tessimon will replace Spell Resistance with the Underdark spell "Wall of Dispel Magic". This will be her first action, so when the PC's fly over the firepit to get at her there's a chance they'll find themselves at the bottom of a flaming pit. She and Firre will be on the platform with the Kossuth priest, conducting the ceremony. Firre's first action will be to finish him off.

To me, there's nothing sillier in the module than Arlainth's Wand of Fireballs. I mean come on, he already can throw four fireballs as his only 3rd level spell...does he really need more? I'm definetely replacing that, possibly with a Wand of Haste.

Does anyone think Zert's feat list is silly? Would it be better to replace the flaming shortsword +1 with something else, change his feats around and have him go two-handed on the Sword of Fire? Or is this moving too far from his ToEE build.

All thoughts welcomed.

There's no such thing as moving too far from the ToEE build. Change things as you will. If you use the BoVD, you can give him a level or 2 of Warrior of Darkness. IMC, TWF actually made him useful and it was surprisingly interesting to have two flaming short swords. Change Arlainth's wand to a wand of lightning bolts. I'm betting Monte intended that or to give him lightning bolt as a spell choice. A wand of haste would be very useful, but then the party gets a hold of it. Just be aware of that fact. ;)

Couple of points. Make sure you have a save bonus figured out for the platform and/or altar. Define a spell level for the flames (I chose 10th) because someone might try to dispel them (reasonable choice since the flames are magical). Decide exactly who controls the platform under different conditions (i.e. without Tessimon, and two people of equal level). I decided that a worshipper of EEE or Tharizdun always wins over others. Big T just 'knows'. Holding the tentacle rod overrides everything else. Moving the platform is a free action, so decide how far it can move in a round (vertically as well as horizontally), including whether or not two people can control it in the same round (one moves it, steps off, then someone else steps on and tries to move it within the same round, what happens?). Don't forget that the skeletons are intelligent! Use good tactics with them, like aid another or grappling foes and dragging them to the pit.

Not too worried
I'm not too worried about them getting a Wand of Haste...they don't have an arcane caster to use it. I see it either being sold reluctantly, given to that insane bard if they save him, cure him and bring him along or pocketed for the use of a future arcane caster. I'm more worried about him being so busy Hasting NPC's he never gets to use any of those DC21 Fireballs, but he'll definetely want to haste himself, Tess and maybe Zert.

The flames should probably be 11th level, to match the Pro-Fire effect of the Unhallow.

I figure a speed of maybe 20' for the platform, any direction but some limitations as to how far from the pit it can travel. I have no idea what save bonuses to give it though.
