The Fourth Member
Okay, the Triad is a pretty cool name, but how about if I wanted to add a fourth member, say Hedrack, to the leaders? This follows quite nicely IMO with there being four elements. Anyway, what would be a cool name for the leaders if there are four? The Quartet just doesn't seem to strike fear. I'd have to make them all bards or give them ranks in Perform. ;)

The Four Pillars....
The Quad....
The Foursome....

Yeah, it all comes off like late-50's band names. May as well call them Hedrack and the Pips.

I'm always tempted to go visit and English-Latin translating website for these sorts of problems. Here's a pretty good one.

Let's see what we can come up with...

The Dark Quadrangle
The Quadrate Mysterium
The Diritas Quadrifidum
Quattor Nex Necis

-Thrommel, laureatus tyrannum of Furyondy and lingua lanius.

Uh, you wanna provide the translations for those? That site only goes one way.

The Quadrifecta?
The Fane-al Four?
Eenie Meenie Miney MADNESS?!

I think you're better off drawing a parallel with shapes. How about:

The Cross of Darkness
The Diamond of Madness
Tharizdun's X

In an old campaign I had a group of bad guys called The Claw. Each of five bad guys represented a finger of their nasty talon symbol.

Quadriphenia ;)

Some of Siobhareks are pretty good. It will be impossible to surpass the evil overtones of "The Triad" due to the real triads.

Thrommel, you actually see a Latin to English translator on that page? I don't, nor do I find it easy to look up some of those words manually using that dictionary. Ug.

The Tetrarchy.
Or you could imagine a d4 with the three visible faces being the Triad and the fourth "the hidden face" or "Arcanus" (a title implying the hidden one).

Re: the qubit
I think Thrommel's referring to the form about half-way down that page. It's not an exhaustive translator, more of just a word matcher.

Anyway I had a very similar thought to Bluesman. What's cool is that you might not have to re-invent any extra imagery here with the pyramid angle (so to speak). With the obex a prominent image, but always displayed (likely) in your campaign in two-dimensional projection, you have that final, fourth point that gives a pyramid it's proper 3D shape left for your extra BBEG.

As for a name, if you go this route, Bluesman's Tetra-... prefix is of course a good one. Tetrad is an option for example. Quaternion is also an idea and means exactly "four parts" or "four persons".

The guy with the 12-page campaign log filled with off-camera cut-scenes doesn't like to do leg work -- stop it, you're killing me!

All you do is plug in the stem and click the equals sign...

diritas -atis f. [misfortune , disaster; cruelty, fierceness].
quadrifidus -a -um [split into four].

quattuor indecl. num. [four].
nex necis f. [death; usually violent death , murder].

Actually, who cares what it means - does it sound cool?

-Thrommel, who clearly prefers style over substance. That's why he spends so much time in gaseous form.

Re: the qubit
Sorry, not entirely on topic (nor entirely of sound mind at the moment)... there's an Australian band called TISM that released an album under a joke cover of "Machiavelli and the Four Seasons" -- all of the listed tracks contained the word "Baby", most of them "Love" and few of them anything else...

The actual track listing included tracks such as the "(He'll never be an) Old Man River" speed-rock dirge for River Phoenix and "Uoy Sevol Natas" which should resonate with D&D players. Anyway, that said, how about

"Imix and the Four Elements"? They can have ranks in Perform (Death Metal Ballad) or something. [I'm thinking something sounding like www.amazon.com/exec/obido...04-0625426 ]

Sorry, I'll go sedate myself now.

as much as I like Hedrack...

If Hedrack is the fourth member of Triad, he'll overshadow all three of them!

Re: hmm
Great ideas! As for Quarternion, that would never work in a group where four of us have an MSCS and the other three have a BSCS. I would never live it down. They would then expect to have to fight the Eulers in the next adventure, a decidely more evil bunch. :)

The Axis of (Elemental) Evil?

He he he he.

One of my NPCs I RP as sort of a Lewis Black fellow ...

When he says stuff it's usually excited, sarcastic, and with some wavy-wiggling hands.

So I imagine I'm going to call them "The Trifecta of EVIL!".

How about

The Tharizdun experience featuring Hedrack :p

The Triumvirate of Evil + 1

The Four Doomdreamers of the Apocalypse

Or maybe something in Latin (a very loose translation, taken directly from a conversion site, I have no knowledge of the language)

Four
Quadrificus
Quadrivium

Evil
malefactor
maleficus

Destruction
clades
excidium
exitium

The Conclave of the Damned

or for something extremely simple

The Four

Cheers,
Simon.

To carry on the Greek theme (triad from tria, meaning 'three'), why not...

The Tesserad
(from Greek tessera, meaning 'four')

I think it has some of the mystique of the Triad while being unique.
