Players destroyed access to the Outer Fane prison rooms
In yesterday's game the players attacked the Outer Fane's prison, laying both a 10d6 fireball and a 10d6 flame strike right over the lever. It slagged the lever, preventing Daagra from making her escape, but also prevented the players from rescuing the prisoners.

What do you think the Outer Fane would do if they are seriously depleted of forces? What would happen to the prisoners? What would the Lammasu do?

I was a bit concerned, as outside of trying to scry the cleric's mentor who they believe may be held prisoner there, the next day they didn't make any particular attempts to find out how to access it.

Can't the PCs use makewhole on the prison levers? I wouldn't think the Outer Fane would do anything at all, actually. Let them rot. Perhaps each of the cells has a permanent food/water source. About the Lammasu, if he's in prison, he wouldn't do anything, right?

The OF wouldn't do anything.
The module mentions that Daagra needs to feed the prisoners so presumably they will not be fed. But if they aren't fed then the Lamasu will not be drugged. Therefore the Lamasu will be able to prepare spells and attempt to escape or contact someone for help.

Regarding I2K's points -- Make Whole doesn't repair burned/melted objects. The Lammasu is drugged because it has a spell-like ability of dimension door 1/day.

Assuming the Lammasu came out of it's drugged state in 36 hours, what do you think it would do? Seeing the other prisoners would it try to rescue them or would it try to escape immediately to reply to it's celestial masters?

Unfortunately, it's the 1/day dimension door that is the killer.

Assume it uses it's DD ability to move to area 32. Say it heads south into the corridor, rather than stumbling into the evil elementals in area 33. Say it then manages to sneak by Naquent's room without disturbing her. Say it gets past the arrowhawks in 34 and the invisible stalkers in 36. IT STILL CAN'T OPEN THE AIR DOOR! So he's stuck hiding in the OF for a day, an OF which is likely on high alert because of the PC's that slagged the controls in the first place.

If it's really smart and knows its exact location, it's probably going to DD 680 feet north and up, which should put it just out of range of the lightning towers. From there, it can simply fly away to find some do-gooders to sack the temple good.

If it's not that smart or lucky, however, one of two things will happen. He'll either be fortunate enough to cross paths with the PC's or he's going to die faster than you can say "vampire spawn".

However, I believe the prisoners are being kept alive for a reason. I'm not sure what that reason is, but then I'm not an insane chaos-god worshipper. The Cult of Tharizdun isn't going to give these prisoners three hots and a cot out of the evilness of their hearts. I believe they will find some magical method of transferring the prisoners to the tender care of Yrthuk Innar. (Except the troll - I think they'll let him rot. And Athemal - they'll probably sacrifice him on general principle.)

Re: Lammasu
I wouldn't think that the lammasu has any idea where exactly the prison is located, and it's not dumb (Int 16), so to escape it would probably dimension door straight up, to the limits of its range.

Having said that, lammasu are Lawful Good, so I'd think it would try to assess whether it can help the other prisoners or not. It won't have any idea why it's suddenly conscious, so it might try to pretend it's still out of it while preparing spells to help it find out what IS going on (eg. augury or divination). It might risk this even if it concludes that it can't help the others, because it provides some more info as to what its best course of action would be.

A lot would depend on how much the lammasu found out before it was captured - if it found out that the doomdreamers are as close as they are to releasing Tharizdun, is might have to move quickly for the sake of the world. If all it knows is that some evil cultists are holed up in the mountains, maybe it won't feel the same sense of urgency. Unfortunately, it may misinterpret the fact that it's still alive to be an indication that its captors are afraid to kill it, and be all righteously indignant. If it figures out it's got a couple of days, it might create lots of food and water for the others before taking off...

Re: Lammasu
Does the lammasu require the material and focus components to cast spells? I think so, so I doubt he could cast any useful spells after praying for an hour. Therefore, his first objective is to escape, and for that he would take the chance to dimension door as far away as possible. If he knows the layout of the Outer Fane, escape is imminent, but there's a chance he misses.
