Re: -
After another extensive planning session...yes, we have a dragon-slaying. And the blossoming of love in the CRM as well.
Much of the session consisted of another hour and a half of tactics, spells, ideas, and so forth (sorry, but no...a summoned Arrowhawk carrying a flask of Soverign Glue and a Tanglefoot Bag is not going to glue Chymon's mouth shut).
Finally, the attack began...but not the one they expected. I had a present waiting for them in the orc caves...a Pseudonatural 7-headed Lernean Hydra (see the Scrying notes in the Bob for a description. Purely by chance, we had crab for dinner that night).
Recovering from that battle, the group made their assault. A seven-round run across the fire bridge, invisibly, brought them to the door...and yet again, Chymon was invisible when the ogre charged.
Bryan timed his attack to avoid the AoO this time...he's learning...and managed (hasted) to stirge-suck 4 con points out of Chymon. Ouch. Chymon wasn't amused, and did a claw-snatch-grapple and smush on the ground manouver.
Spud never hit until the last round.
Lyssa threw some spells and did some attacking. Mixed bag.
Tsindin was quite effective. Hasted, blinking, and hurling Lightning Bolt after Lightning Bolt. Even though she lost every other bolt (twice to SR, once to her own Blink) she dished out a lot of damage.
Ultimately, it came down to this. I'd taken 108 out of a new max of 180. The ogre hadn't hit me once. I had breath #2 lined out. So I figured I could dump breath #2 on them and keep on smacking for a bit....72 hps seemed a decent safety margin, since it took them close to four rounds to dish that out.
Tsindin L-bolted again, and Chymon failed her save.
Lyssa pulled a double-twenty with her greatsword, dishing out a NASTY crit.
Spud finally hit, which was the blow to drop her to -9.
So Chymon is dead, and it only took all five of them, fresh and totally prepped, using up their three haste potions.
Session ended after they passed round a few healing potions...they're saving their spells for later. Alas, but this is when Fredrick's last bit of revenge came into play.
The "cure light wounds" potion Lyssa handed to Spud...was the Potion of Love Fredrick had switched vials on a few days prior. Session ended with Spud (expectably) failing his will save and falling in love with Lyssa. Now consider what an Ogre's idea of love is like....

That's going to be hell on the player, since he is the one who is going to have to imagine what the Ogre's idea of love is.

I'll try not to take offense to that, Chartam. Suffice it to say, I game with a mature, adult group of players with whom I have no particular worries or concerns.

I'm well aware of the level of your gaming group, Andorax, which is why I thought it safe to make a little joke. Sorry to have offended.

Alas that the printed medium has no tone to it. My pardon in turn for being overly touchy. Now back to our regularly scheduled gaming.

Re: :)
Well, we've progress once again, and interesting at that.
First of all, a suggestion to the DMs. If you have Chymon "on her guard", please take a moment and have her affix one or more of her scrolls to the roof of her chamber (Teleport Without Error, at the very least). Reach a claw up, make an "oh-so-hard" concentration check, and a somewhat more difficult caster level check, and use that as a quick, easy, no-AoO way of getting the heck out of there, or otherwise improving on firepower.
With that said, on to last night's session.
After convincing Spud that "displaying his love for Lyssa" would be best reserved for that evening (and Tsindin is planning on saving a second 4th level slot for Leo's Secure Shelter just so she won't have to be there), the group moved on along.
They investegated the alcoves below Chymon's room, and were in the midst of studying them when Tsindin heard the Ogres to the east. Peeking through the hole in the stone wall (after casting Improved Invisibility), she saw them, paniced a bit, and roasted the lot with a Fireball (none saved, all died...*poof*).
They then proceeded to deal with the traps down below. Detect Magic revealed the spell triggers. The Wand of Summon Monster taken off of Uskathoth (which I described as *odd*) was used to summon up an Arrowhawk.
Ok..."odd" in this case is defined as "summons Pseudonatural version". She was, indeed, surprised to see a flying serrated sword with four metalic wings floating before her, but it did follow her orders, swooping into alcoves #1 and #2 and back out again without incident before the summon gave out.
Second one summoned. Flies down to alcove #3 and is blasted with the Cone of Cold and killed.
Third one summoned....oh darn, it failed the 25% chance and went evil on her. Blasted her with lightning, then was pummeled by Lyssa and Bryan.
Fourth one summoned...it goes evil too, but Lyssa, Bryan, and Spud now manage to destroy it before it gets it's attack off (I ruled that the Druid was able to recognize it about to attack before doing so).
Ok...fifth one summoned, and Spud (being the bright fellow he is) goes "oh no, another one, must smash" and destroys it before they realize that this one didn't "go evil". Pause while things are "explained" to Spud.
Sixth one summoned, send down, triggers the poison gas, and is dismissed.
So now with the Dispel Magics. First one waxes #2, #3, and #4 (I ruled that the traps were set by a 14th level caster). Detect Magic...#1 is still there. Dispel Magic. Detect Magic. #1 still alive and well. Dispel Magic. Detect Magic. Nope, still there. Dispel Magic. Detect Magic...FINALLY, it's gone.
So they're out 6 charges off the SM III wand, at least 8 from the Detect Magic wand, and Tsindin's out four Dispel Magic castings, and a fireball...she's getting low on 3rds. Tsindin's nervous about that wand now, too...the Pseudonatural nature of what was summoned has her *very* nervous.
So they go to grab the iron chest, setting off the (entirely nonmagical) pit trap. Down goes Bryan (in Yuan-Ti form), drop, roll, clang...he's in the bottommost area of the pit.
So they try a few things, and eventually Tsindin is lowered down to the iron plate trapping Bryan (no illusion...that was triggered by the curtain, now dispelled). She touches down on the plate, and CLANG, the top seals off.
Panic ensues. Tsindin, out of desparation, summons a Zorn (her own spell, not the wand). Wouldn't you know? This is the time for it to come up evil again! Trapped in a 10x10x30' tall pit with an angry Zorn, who rolls pathetically (luckily) with the claws and misses her with all but the bite. She panics some more and unleashes a Lightning Bolt at point blank, destroying it.
At this point, Tyra has shifted back to human form, drawn forth her Chime of Opening, and *ding*, the top iron plate withdraws. A moment (and spider climb) later, and *ding*, the lower plate is opened.
Party freed, Tsindin's drooling over the loot in the coffer, Lyssa's patched everyone up, and off they go down the corridor 'round the corner.
Storeroom is looted for fresh food supplies.
Ogre Guardroom is a "shrug and walk".
Vestery is looted, and the PCs are now ALL wearing Purple Robes of Tharizdun, along with having the Thurbule, the Torch of Revealing, and lots of Incense.
Nobody messes with the Sphere of Annihilation...luckily, Tsindin is dissuaded.
Bugbears are fooled by the Purple Robes, and are told to "carry on" in their guardroom.
Tojanda is likewise unconcerned about five "robed priests", and lurks in the water. Minotaur and Naga rooms...empty (killed before). Library is browsed for interesting books.
Then they came to Saatu's room.
Just a reminder...I have two Druids, a Sorceress, a Cleric and a Fighter. I'm getting *really* sick of a party with almost unversally good will saves.
Tsindin stares down the door and gets in. Saatu rises up from his pit and blasts away with a Mind Blast, and (predictably) only Spud goes down.
Group rolls initiative.
Tyra goes first, and slaps Saatu with a Waterball (MotW, it's a Subdual Fireball).
Tsindin follows with a Fireball, but splats against the SR.
Saatu gives Tsindin a "suggestion" to "follow him down", then levitates down into the darkness. She saves, of course.
Lyssa goes next and drops a Flamestrike down into the bottom. Silence. Nervous about the ever-so-deadly Mind Flayer, they choose to retreat out the door.
Saatu lies at the bottom of the pit, with about 6 hps and about 32 subdual damage, so he's out cold for the next three hours.
End of session. They wrapped up back in the Dragon room, planning to head northwards now. I plan on introducing Varachan as soon as they round the first corner.
In case you're wondering...the two Drow and Hedrack anticipated this, and are currently standing on the Fire Bridge waiting for the PCs to come out. They expected (incorrectly) another "hit and run".

I just want to say that I really appreciate this. It seems like too many DMs have their evil villains change their plans to perfectly anticipate what the PCs are doing.
Anyway, another great update!

Re: Andorax's Sunday night PCs
I must say that this log has been the most intriguing one that I've read as of yet.
Having said that I recognized your name from a wizard board. Is this the same Andorax?
My session log is in the link below, though I've only JUST begun. I'd love to hear what you think of it so far.

'tis indeed...and I'll go have a look.
Hmm...interesting. I've never been a big fan of evil parties, but every DM has their own approach. I love the graphic/design format you've used on your page. Very stylish and easy to read. The only thing I'd change on that is the order...but again, that's subject to personal preference.

Re: Andorax's Sunday night PCs
Yeah, I don't particularily like the order that they come up in either, but I can't change it's general format. All I can do is update it with entries. But I think I'm going to make another site for it that might work out better.
Thanks for the input

Thanks, ShadowmageIX. Appreciate the compliment.
Alas, I've more bad news. Two of my players got prime hockey tickets for yesterday, so it's yet ANOTHER week without a RttToEE update. Hopefully next Sunday.

That or link campaign time into some suitable fraction of real time
